The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) of Ghana announces that the Fund has started negotiations on plans to invest up to $30 million in Atlantic Lithium Ltd, an Australian exploration and mining firm listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).

Atlantic Lithium has discovered lithium in commercial quantities in Ghana and is on track to become West Africa’s first producing mine.

The Ewoyaa discovery in the central region has a significant amount of lithium spodumene located on the Cape Coast lithium belt.

The company last week announced an upgrade on their Mineral Resource Estimate (“MRE” or the “Resource”) to 35.3Mt at 1.25% Li2O for the Ewoyaa Project. With current developments in the Lithium industry, the mineral resource has an indicated life mine of revenues exceeding $4.8 billion.

MIIF plans to take up an equity stake in the fully funded African-focused company which has a 50% offtake agreement from Piedmont Lithium, a United States-based developer of lithium resources for Ghana produced lithium.

Piedmont Lithium also has a 50% offtake agreement with Tesla Inc., an American multinational automotive, artificial intelligence, and clean energy company which owns Tesla Motors.

MIIF’s Lithium Plan

The Chief Executive Officer of MIIF, Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng said, “investing in Atlantic Lithium speaks to President Nana Akufo Addo’s vision of ensuring that mining provides sustainable long-term value for Ghanaians.

This vision finds meaning in MIIF’s mandate and the plan to invest in the lithium resource and the entire value chain. We are not only interested in developing the mineral resource but to invest in the value chain.

Our strategic focus is to support the development of lithium processing, development of battery manufacturing and additional inputs, and the preparedness to support an electronic vehicle (EV) market in Ghana to serve the sub-region.”.

According to Mr. Koranteng, “electric vehicles represent a US$7 trillion market opportunity between 2023 and 2030 and US$46 trillion between 2023 and 2050. This represents opportunities for Ghana that can be leveraged by the current automobile development plan that has seen six car assembly plants already established in Ghana.

The by-products of lithium such as feldspar also provide a new stratum of opportunity. Feldspar is the main mineral resource needed to produce ceramics and MIIF is positioned to support the development of the use of the feldspar”. “MIIF’s strategy is to not only be active in the lithium value chain but to help develop the capital markets.

“In this vein, an initial condition of Atlantic Lithium listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange has been accepted by the company. This will give all Ghanaians the chance to acquire shares in the resource.

“We are excited that Ghana can play in the green energy boom which is crucial for the decarbonization efforts of the country,” Koranteng said.

About MIIF

MIIF is a sovereign minerals fund mandated by the Minerals Income Investment Fund Act 2018, (Act 978) as amended, to maximize the value of dividend and royalties’ income accruing to the Republic of Ghana in a beneficial, accountable, and sustainable manner and to monetize Ghana’s mineral wealth in a manner which would bring long term value to Ghana.

“Don’t ever wanna act, too
High and mighty
‘Cause tomorrow
I can fall on my face
So in everything
Lord, I give You praise
And that puts a smile on my face….”

These are the lyrics of a song written and sung by Jermaine Edward from Jamaica. 8 years ago RushawnEwears beautifully sang this song in school as one of his favorite songs and was recorded on video and posted.

8 years later, the video surfaced and went viral. The video which shows Rushawn standing in a classroom in uniform singing to the lyrics (like it was his), has a message that connects with everyone. The innocence and the vulnerability of an 8-year-old singing,
“Lord, I thank You for sunshine
Thank You for rain
Thank You for joy
Thank You for pain
It’s a beautiful day
(Beautiful day)

It’s a beautiful day…” is what has turned the video into an influential piece of art.
Rushawn is now 16years and an artist in the making, thanks to Jermaine Edward.

After a few exploitations of the video on the internet , Jermaine was able to ensure that the school, Rushawn, and the school teacher are well taken care of. He’s being such a blessing to the kid and his mother, adopting the school and building a new playground in Rushawn’s name.

The use of the internet in recent times is incredible, Rushawn has been co-signed to a record deal by Sonymusicuk, and he’s got a big brother called Jermaine Edward who is keen on making sure the boy succeeds in his artistry.

All these and many other benefits are happening now for Rushawn because his video went viral and now he’s a star in the making.

With the help of Jermaine, he now has an Instagram account with over 100k followers. In his recent post of the video, he wrote in the caption, “Sometimes I wonder if I’m dreaming. I want to thank God for blessing my life by singing my favorite song from @jermaineedwardsreal. Thank you for writing it #itsabeautifulday, years later it changed my life.”

12 years ago, Asamoah Gyan broke the hearts of many Ghanaians when he lost the penalty against Uruguay. A game that tainted his name, an unforgettable experience.

On December 2, 2022, Black stars got the chance to rewrite this history. Ghanaians had high hopes for this game especially when the German referee ruled out a penalty against Uruguay. Finally, an opportunity, but Dede Ayew, crushed the hearts of his people, destabilizing the entire team throughout the first half of the game. Uruguay on the other hand, utilized every chance and scored 2 goals within 10 minutes.

Ghana Black Stars came back with much stronger aggression but the Uruguayans kept a defensive unit making it impossible for the Black Stars to score.

With Korea scoring 2 against Portugal, a match that was played concurrently with the Ghana and Uruguay, game, Korea has qualified for the round of 16 as well as Portugal.

The Black Stars will be heading home.

The impact of Inflation on the Economy remains a constant challenge for Central Banks and governments around the world.

Inflation can be so damaging because when prices rise, it means your money has less value.

In response, central banks have implemented measures to control inflation by raising or lowering interest rates and introducing quantitative easing programs to inject liquidity into the banking sector. With all these measures in place, you might wonder how inflation impacts the banking sector and what you can do to survive it.

In this article, we will explore the impact of inflation on the banking sector and some strategies that you can implement in response.

What is inflation and how does it affect the banking sector?

Inflation is a sustained increase in the general price level of goods and services. Rising inflation means that the purchasing power of money decreases over time. This happens when there is a general increase in the supply of money without a corresponding increase in the demand for goods and services. A decline in the purchasing power of money can be compared to a reduction in the number of goods that can be purchased with a given amount of money. This can also be referred to as “diminishing returns.”

Strategies to Survive Inflation in the Banking Sector

As inflation continues to increase, the banking sector is highly susceptible to risk — especially the retail banking sector.

Here are a few ways you can survive inflation in the banking sector:

– Choose a conservative banking option to protect your savings – You may want to consider investing in a conservative banking option, such as high-yield savings or certificates of deposit. These accounts offer a lower rate of return than riskier investments like stocks, but they are also less likely to lose value as a result of inflation.

– Switch to a high-yield savings account – In order to earn a higher rate of return on your savings, you may want to consider switching to a high-yield savings account. These types of accounts allow you to earn a higher rate of return without taking on excessive risk.

– Consider investing in real estate – Another option for a conservative investment is real estate. This investment offers a steady rate of return as rental prices typically remain stable over time.

Bank Rotations and Mergers

If government intervention proves to be ineffective at curbing inflation, central banks may decide to rotate commercial banks or force mergers between commercial banks. This will make them healthier. This means that a healthy commercial bank can take over an unhealthy commercial bank or two commercial banks can merge together to create a larger, healthier bank.

When commercial banks are rotated or forced to merge, depositors are generally protected because most of the institutions that are rotated or merged continue to operate as they did prior to the intervention.

Negative Interest Rates

In extreme cases when inflation gets out of control, central banks may decide to implement negative interest rates. A negative interest rate is an interest rate that is below zero. This is when a commercial bank pays you to take money from them. When inflation is high, a common solution used by banks and other lenders is to charge a negative interest rate.

This means you are paid money by the bank instead of paying money to the bank. When the economy is in a recession, the government generally recommends implementing negative interest rates to encourage borrowing and spending. This is because people are less likely to spend money when they have to repay it back with interest.

Conclusion

Inflation is a constant challenge for central banks and governments around the world. The impact of inflation on the economy remains a constant challenge for central banks and governments around the world.  The above are some strategies that you can implement in response.

Ghana played their first match against Portugal in the Qatar, 2022 FIFA World Cup. The streets of Accra were quiet when the game started as every Ghanaian with expectancy was glued to their television.

The game kicked off with Portugal having about 70% ball possession and Ghana about 23% in the first half.

The toughness of the match led the Black Stars to play defensively for 52 minutes with no goal scored. Both teams head to the locker room scoreless after the first half.

About 10 minutes into the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo set the pace of the game when he scored Ghana through the penalty awarded to Portugal by Ismail Elfath; the Moroccan- American referee.

Cristiano Ronaldo made history and became the first man to score in five World Cups.

A goal that brought about tension and agitation but shortly after, Andrew Ayew, Captain of the Ghana Black Stars equalized that goal beautifully before coach Otto Addo substituted him and Mohammed Kudus.

But that moment of relief, ecstasy, and cheering were short-lived as Joao Felix took the lead back to Portugal’s, 8 minutes after Ghana equalized followed by a 3rd goal scored by Rafael Leão.

Despite all efforts made by Ghana Black Stars to be at bay, Osman Bukari headed the second goal, bringing the final scores to 3- 2. Ghana lost the match to Portugal.

With Portugal now at the top of the list in group H, Ghana stands to play South Korea on Monday.

“I go out every night because there is a wealth of information…”

BlacVolta is a lifestyle brand in Ghana founded by Joey Adjei in 2020,  a young ambitious man who started vlogging about the nightlife of Ghanaians showing the salient yet reputable moments and experiences.

The aura and feeling curated by Disc Jockeys (DJs) and Master of Ceremonies (MCs) is not a thing most vloggers seem interested in but now in Ghana, people choose to be at certain events based on the DJ or the hype man/MC that’s going to be there and thanks to Blac Volta.

Joey Adjei is a smart lad whose being in the corporate world for 10 years.

During the day, he is a professional chartered Human Resource manager at an Oil and Gas company in Ghana.

His “8-5p.m.” schedule is very demanding yet flexible enough to allow him to fulfill his passion for telling stories about nightlife experiences in Ghana.

Like no other vlogger, BlacVolta is a culture of people who love to have a great time. Being able to document an event is important but to bring to light the experience and vibe that lingers on the minds of people, capturing moments that reflect positively on the production, organizers, bartenders, DJs, MCs, and bouncers is massive and that’s what BlacVolta lives for.

His camera captures the captivating times of an event making viewers anticipate the next one. Despite the fun and excitement that comes with this career, some challenges seem beyond Joey’s control. His most concern in this industry is how he’s able to create content that promotes places, people, and events to the masses, and yet due to a lack of proper management (such as bouncers’ attitude, poor customer service, etc.) people don’t get the full experience they expect. He was frank about the reason why he chooses to promote DJs and MCs and yet they not pulling their weight to match the standards. Regardless he’s not giving up.

He’s built a team that is willing to tell the tales of the blissful night-times in Ghana via all social media including podcasts.

His strong ties with most of the owners of clubs, pubs, and restaurants have paved the way for him and his team to interview people like Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Bozoma Saint John, etc., vlogging at events like Global Citizen Concert, Afrochella, and places like Garage, Bloom Bar, Alley Bar etc.

Joey is a creative artistic young man who loves Euro-house music. He described nightlife as his haven; a place to maintain his sanity from an overwhelming profession. He is a religious Christian and yet when asked, “how do you marry the nightlife and your religious beliefs, without feeling guilty?”

He answered “ I have my internal battles, but to keep me sane, I promote the nightlife that inspires people to want to have a good time. I don’t just post anything.”

To calm those internal battles, he chooses to pray. He goes out every night because there is a wealth of information and content that he loves to share with people all over the world.

He does a lot of self-reflection while creating content from the end-user/customer/consumer’s perspective. Being an international vlogger, his advice to anyone who aspires to be in the industry is to “Be very disciplined and super passionate.”

BlacVolta explained that a lot of perks come with this job; free alcohol, women, fame, free membership at certain clubs, travelling, etc. and these things can easily sway or even destroy a person if they are not grounded or disciplined enough to exercise self-control.

Joey (as most of his friends call him) believes in staying true to himself and hopes that he’s remembered as such.

Makeup, most people know is to enhance the beauty of everyone wearing it but there is a kind of make-up that screams horror, illusion, and non-traditional and that is a Special FX or special effect.

The ability to use prosthetics, face paint, cosmetics, and other skin-friendly materials to transform a person into a different character or a creature takes a lot of creative art and Nathaniel Amewugah is one of Ghana‘s talented special effect make-up artists.

Growing up like every other kid Nathaniel had dreams and being a curious child, he was always breaking things and fixing them, he thought he would be a pilot. But that aspiration was short-lived after he failed one of his final exams in WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Exams) for focusing more on entertainment in school.

Regardless he never gave up on himself. He decided to be an actor and started to pursue his acting career by enrolling in a media school. During one of his lessons, his lecturer introduced them to Halloween makeup and that sparked his interest in special effects makeup.

Immediately he started researching and learning more about this type of make-ups. In his quest of being a special effect make-up artist, he realized the lack of SFX in Ghana’s movie industry, hence the need to take the risk of meeting that demand and developing it further.

Amongst many other challenges, he had to face the worst, not having his family’s support or belief in his dream and that drove him to work harder and smarter. He was ready to use his story to change the status quo, and change the notion that make-up is a thing for women.

Today Nathaniel, whose social media name is kruz_kmakeup has bagged not only one but seven different awards such as: “Discovery of the year(Ghana Arts and Culture Awards 2020), Makeup brand of the year (Golden Age Awards 2021), and Best SFX makeup artist (Ghana beauty awards 2021) just to mention a few.

For six years, he’s created amazing works in Ghanaian movies such as Baabani, My Name is Ramadan, 95, Evil Dead, and the action thriller, Terminus.

One thing that makes Nathaniel’s art unique is his ability to improvise with local materials and make his imagination so real in movie scenes.

He’s had to use materials like tissue paper, food colour, honey, cotton, Vaseline, foundation, paper glue, and bonding glue to make wounds, scars, and other crazy ideas come to life.

Nathaniel is a young prop creator and creative director as well. He wants to be remembered as the guy who brought change to the Ghana movie industry and he’s working hard at making that impact one movie at a time.

He’s trained quite a few people in the industry and he’s open to working with anyone who needs his services.

Ghana’s trendiest festival Afrochella is being sued by Coachella; an American music and art festival for alleged trademark infringement.

Afrochella which is a festival celebrating African culture, music, arts, and food started in Ghana in 2017.

On Wednesday, 5th October 2022, Goldenvoice (the concert giant behind Coachella) filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the organizers of Afrochella in California district court.

3 years before this lawsuit AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns Goldenvoice) issued a warning to the Afrochella festival about their infringement on the festival’s trademark.

The written statement sent to Afrochella in 2019 read;

“We understand that you are using Afrochella as the name of a music and arts festival. We note that your event is part of a larger celebration that is designed to attract those living abroad (including those in the United States) to return home to Africa.”

“Regardless of the celebration or event, your use of Afrochella as the name of a music and arts festival is highly likely to create a likelihood of confusion and mistake as to the affiliation, connection, or association of you with AEG and with Coachella. In particular, the public is likely to believe that you are authorized by, or affiliated with, AEG or Coachella.

In fact, you have even admitted that your event name and your event were inspired by Coachella. Similarly, comments to own your own Facebook page comment that your festival name is merely trading on the goodwill of the Coachella mark.”

The Afrochella festival aimed to bring Africans especially Ghanaians in the diaspora together to network while having fun.
Thanks to Afrochella, Ghana has become the number one party hub in Africa where the majority of people look forward to having a great time in December annually.

This year, Afrochella has started the “Rising Star Afrochella,” a challenge meant to help talented upcoming artists win a chance to perform at upcoming Afrochella Festival.

Afrochella 2022 is scheduled to take place on December 28 and 29 at El Wak Stadium in Accra, Ghana.

Artists on the bill include headliners Burna Boy and Stonebwoy, as well as Ayra Starr, Fireboy DML, Black Sherif, and more.

Certainly an initiative with good intent, but the question on the minds of most fans is, will this lawsuit affect their chance of having a good time at this year’s event?

Ghana was selected to be part of the countries to host a free concert dubbed “Global Citizen festivals,2022. “The festival which happened concurrently in Accra and New York City was a blast.

The musical festival geared towards raising funds, celebrating 10 years of social impact globally, and creating awareness of the “End Poverty Now,” campaign was supported by Hollywood stars, Grammy-award-winning artists, and government officials including our very own President Nana AkuffoAddo who graced the occasion with his presence on Saturday night at the Black Star Square.

On 26th September, thousands of Ghanaians danced and chanted alongside performances by American R&B singer Usher Raymond IV, British rapper Stormzy, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy, Nigerian singer Tem’s Baby, and more.

The atmosphere at the concert was full of excitement as people swayed their hands left and right going according to the beat of the music.

Many Ghanaians were impressed with the live concert as some shared their experience as the “best concert ever held in Ghana since independence.”

The Global Citizen festivals in Accra and New York City announced over $ 8 million to empower girls, defeat poverty, defend the planet, promote health, protect civic space and mitigate the global food crisis.
